The live presented by Faraualla, for vocal quartet and percussions, undertakes a journey into vocality, drawing on ethnic repertory and landing to originals pieces. The new compositions, strongly connected to the sound now deep-seated of the group, represent a new stage in his research.
Unlike previous compositions, strongly characterized by counterpoint, in which also percussions have nearly a melodic value, in the new work the voices constitute mostly one body, going often at the same rhythm aiming to a strong impact. A characteristic “grammelot” marks Faraualla lyrics, all along fascinated by vocal sound in its purity: in the latest compositions lyrics come nearer to a language that makes sense, made up of words in tune, coloured and evocative of images.
Some of the pieces are sung in Apulian dialect and their lyrics are constituted by healing formulas of the women that practiced, with rites handed down for centuries, the so-called Popular Medicine.
The study of popular music and vocality is always present in the investigative course of the group. That’s why the live performance includes some traditional pieces.
